This coming weekend, all of Pickles hard work as an "ensemble" member of the cast of Oklahoma will pay off. The musical opens at the Panola Playhouse on Friday, and I can't wait to see the show! Yesterday was the first day of dress rehearsal, and she was so excited! You see, we had to make her costume, and she didn't understand why she had to have a long dress, long sleeves, and a high neck with lace! Make it even worse that I used material out of the closet and refused to buy a purple calico just for this occasion! Only once we arrived at the Playhouse and she realized she was right in character, was she proud of her costume! I must say this was the hardest dress I have ever attempted to make. The instructions were horrible, and I don't know that I have ever needed to make a square yolk and dropped pointed waist! I became so emotional while making this costume, that I must tell you all about it. As many know, my Mom designed many costumes for various theaters and was an excellent seamstress. I don't know of anything she couldn't make. Since her passing, there have been many times I wanted to simply pick up the phone and call and seek her advice. This dress was one of those occasions where I could have used her calming voice and words of encouragement! I think she would be proud that Pickles has a dress that fits perfectly, is correctly identified with the period, and she is quite the little actress.
Last night the director complimented her in front of everyone for staying in character and not forgetting that she was putting on a show. I know that Nana must have been holding that smile and dress for her. Pickles is determined to make Nana proud and let the theater legacy continue on. I can only dream that she make it big, and helps her Mommy in her old age.

If you are in the area, make sure you visit the Panola Playhouse for Oklahoma the musical. The cast is phenomenal and you are sure to walk away with a smile on your face!
Until next time, keep adventuring and looking for joy in the small details of life!
