Girls, Girls, Girls...

This summer has been so much fun!  We have experienced more laughter and joy than normal.  I am not sure why, but we got a jump start on summer and went to visit my family in Oklahoma.  After we returned, we have played on what seems like a daily basis.  Whether it be at the pool, or in the pasture, we have had fun!

When my sister and her family joined us, we had a wonderful week full of family.  And like I was asked last night, Makenzie was left behind.  That's right, my niece decided she wanted to spend the remainder of the summer with us.  I am so glad she did, because she has brought even more of those little giggles to the house.  I was worried at first that she would be "too grown up" to play, but that has not been the case.  My house had been transformed into a wonderland of all things girly.

This week, our niece Angileah came down from Memphis, and she is "too grown up" to play, but the giggles abound anyway.  We have enjoyed having a dinner table full, and the fabulous conversations that come out of no where! During one of the conversations, we learned about Brookies.  Angileah was telling us that she tried to make them.  I have heard of them, but never experimented.  Well, Makenzie made an entire batch!

It dawned on me that I had a crumb cake pan and it would be perfect for our little Brookies.  It has bottoms that come out of each little square.  Since Makenzie was fully in charge, we used a cookie and a brownie mix.  Next time, she wants to learn to make them from scratch, but we had other things to conquer as well, like homemade bread!

Basically a Brookie is a cookie with brownie in the middle.  We used chocolate chip cookies on the top and bottom, and Hershey's supreme brownies in the middle.  I don't want to think about the Points Plus value for these, so we won't discuss this.  Our batch made 12 Brookies.

Makenzie and her Brookies ready to go in the oven...She was so proud!

Our Brookies cooling...everyone was drooling waiting for their tasting!

And more deliciousness!  The little man ran up to them and licked this one and said, "Cookie, Cookie, Cookie!"

Makenzie and her homemade bread!  She loved to play with the dough, and wants to take another starter home to bake it for all her friends!
As you can see, we had fun in the kitchen.  We made a few other things, but I will share those with you later.  We have also been picking buckets of cucumbers!  I guess it is time for me to show these girly girls how to make pickles!

Until next time, keep adventuring and looking for joy in the small details of life!
